“The Fine Tuner” blends New Orleans brass-band tradition, Washington D.C. go-go rhythms, and modern jazz composition. Inspired while Raymond “Dr. Rackle” Williams was performing with the legendary Jackie McLean, the piece took shape at Alan “B.A.P.” Palmer’s piano in New York before becoming a second-line favorite with the Hot 8 Brass Band — eventually appearing on their Grammy-nominated album The Life and Times of the Hot 8 Brass Band.
